Freeways blocked in NYC as commuter revolt spreads - Caught in gridlock traffic on major NYC commuter routes, thousands of driver simply abandoned their vehicles yesterday, creating a snarl that will take authorities weeks to clear.  “We can’t take it anymore…” and “Enough is enough…”  were among the many expressions of anger and frustration heard among commuters who chose to walk home, rather than spend another minute in traffic.  Activists in Boston, Washington, D.C., and other eastern seaboard cities are calling for similar protests tomorrow…

G.E. to build “conservation” factory in the Mojave - Spokesmen for General Electric Corporation have announced plans to build a 1,000,000 sq. ft production facility in the Mojave desert.  Their product:  conservation.  Said G.E. spokesman Don T. Rustme, “Everyone has known for years that conservation is the lowest-cost, most efficient, and most sensible way to reduce greenhouse emissions and dependence on foreign oil.  But American policy-makers have turned their backs on conservation, and so it’s up to the private sector to transform conservation into a commodity that can be marketed and sold like traditional consumer products."  The huge facility planned for the California desert will be operational…

Political action group G.A.S.P. launches appeal - Powerful Washington lobby G.A.S.P [Gasoline Assures the Suicide of the Planet] has launched a nationwide campaign to educate consumers on positive role played by energy consumption.  “Everyone knows that gasoline-powered vehicles have brought the planet to its knees, and so we’re asking everyone to help deliver the ‘coup de grace’ said G.A.S.P. spokeswoman Carrie Seen.  “The sooner we run out of gasoline, the sooner we’ll be forced to find alternatives,” she said in a speech widely seen as the opening salvo in a campaign to increase fossil fuel consumption...
